These terms are an agreement between you and AshterNext, run by Maalik Bagwala in India (“we”, “us”). They cover the Cedar app and this website. By using Cedar, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains what we collect and why.
In short
- Cedar is free. You need to be 18 or older and sign in with Google.
- What you add is yours. We store it so the app works for you.
- Cedar helps you keep track. It isn’t medical, health or professional advice.
- The lock on a note works on your device. Keep your device itself secure.
- An AI assistant you connect acts as you. Check what it adds, and remove it when you’re done.
- You can stop using Cedar and delete your account at any time.
1. Your account
- You must be 18 or older to use Cedar.
- You sign in with your Google account. Keep it and your devices secure, because anyone who can open Cedar on your device can see and change your data, apart from locked notes.
- An account is for one person. Don’t sign in as someone else or share your account.
- You’re responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has used it, email us.
2. What Cedar is, and isn’t
Cedar helps you keep track of habits, todos, focus time, notes and the days until something. It isn’t a doctor, a therapist or a coach.
- Streaks, progress and totals come from what you entered. If an entry is wrong, so is the number.
- Reminders and timer alerts depend on your device. Notifications can be late or missed if they’re turned off, or if your device saves battery or is off. Don’t rely on Cedar alone for anything that can’t be missed, such as medicine.
- Nothing in Cedar is medical, health or professional advice. If you’re struggling with a habit that harms you, please talk to someone qualified.
3. Your content
- What you add to Cedar, such as habits, todos, notes and countdowns, stays yours.
- You let us store, copy, process and show it, only as needed to run Cedar for you: to sync it to your devices, let an assistant you connect use it, and send it to our service providers as our privacy policy describes.
- Only add things you have the right to add. Countdown photos stay on your device, but the same applies to them.
4. Locked notes
- A locked note opens after Face ID, a fingerprint, Touch ID or your device’s passcode. Anyone who can unlock your device that way can open it.
- The lock works in the app on your device. Locked notes are stored on our servers like other notes and aren’t end-to-end encrypted.
- An assistant you connect sees a locked note’s title, never its text. Keep private details out of the title.
5. AI assistants
- Cedar has no AI features of its own. You can connect it to an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT; see Use Cedar from Claude and ChatGPT.
- A connected assistant acts as you. It can read your Cedar and add todos, notes and countdowns, tick off todos and mark habits. What it does is as if you did it.
- Assistants make mistakes. Check what one adds or changes, and fix anything that’s wrong.
- The assistant is run by its own company, under its own terms and privacy policy. We’re not responsible for what it does with what it reads.
- You can remove its access in the assistant at any time.
6. Using Cedar fairly
Don’t:
- use Cedar for anything illegal, or to harass, threaten or deceive anyone;
- try to get into accounts, data or systems that aren’t yours, or test Cedar’s security without our written permission;
- copy, change, decompile or resell the app, except where the law allows;
- use scripts or bots to access Cedar, other than an assistant you connect as described above, or overload or interfere with our servers.
7. Changes and availability
- Cedar is new and still being tested, so features may change, be added or be removed.
- We try to keep Cedar running, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. Cedar keeps a copy of your data on your device, so you can keep going offline.
- If we ever close Cedar, we’ll tell you in the app or by email at least 30 days before.
8. Ending your use
- You can stop using Cedar at any time. To erase your data, delete your account.
- We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or when the law requires us to. Unless the law stops us, we’ll tell you why and, where it makes sense, give you a chance to put things right first.
- When an account is closed, we delete its data as described on the delete account page.
9. Our responsibility to you
- Cedar is provided “as is”. As far as the law allows, we don’t make promises about it beyond those in these terms.
- We aren’t responsible for losses caused by wrong entries, missed reminders, mistakes by an assistant you connected, or decisions you made from what Cedar showed you.
- We aren’t responsible for indirect losses, such as lost profits or lost opportunities.
- If we are responsible for a loss, the most we’ll owe you is the larger of what you paid us in the 12 months before it, or ₹1,000.
- None of this limits rights you have under consumer law that can’t be limited, or our responsibility for fraud, or for harm caused by our negligence.
10. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. If something goes wrong, please email us first, and we’ll try to sort it out. If we can’t, the courts of India will decide.
11. Changes to these terms
We’ll update these terms when Cedar changes. The date at the top shows when they last changed. If a change matters to you, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Cedar after that, the new terms apply.
12. Contact us
